Trio Papadopoulos return to Paxos with a French & Greek program inspired mainly by folk music traditions. The two Greek composers in the program, Yannis Constantinidis and Nikos Skalkotas, though living abroad, have always been greatly influenced by the traditional music of their homeland.
The French composer Claude Debussy combines in the sonata here performed, poetic melancholy with witty irony. In the second and third movements folk Iberian influences emerge and the cello begins sounding like a truly traditional instrument.
The first part of the program ends with a “surrealistic farce” originally written to be a film score by Darius Milhaud. In the second part we will hear a rarely presented transcription from “Orpheus” by Camille Saint-Saens.
The evening will end with a work by Mikis Theodorakis written in 1947, while the composer was in exile. His classical studies are evident in this work but also his audacity as a modern composer. You will be surprised by the vibrant dialogue between the three musical instruments.
